CoverVet wasn’t dreamed up in a boardroom or spun out of a private equity portfolio. It grew out of an animal hospital in Central Florida — and a practice owner staring at a schedule she couldn’t staff.
Our Story
Dr. Sarah Soltis, DVM, owned and operated a successful two-doctor practice. In addition to being the managing doctor, she also performed the hundred invisible jobs it takes to keep a hospital running. But when family care needs demanded more of her time, she discovered how nearly impossible it was to reliably staff the practice in her absence. So, despite a thriving business and a loyal client base, she made a difficult but natural decision — she sold the hospital.
In order to continue working while maintaining the flexibility required by her family demands, Dr. Soltis began picking up relief shifts at hospitals around the region. What she found surprised her: her experience wasn’t unusual. It was everywhere. Hospital after hospital was running at maximum capacity, squeezed between record demand for veterinary care and a workforce stretched too thin to meet it. Practice owners are skipping vacations and working through illnesses; not because relief help doesn’t exist, but because finding it is often expensive, opaque, and risky.
Many of the existing relief options came with markups nobody could see, contracts nobody could escape, and finder’s fees that could follow a practice for years — sometimes triggered by a single shift. A system that was ostensibly created to provide relief was creating a new kind of burden.
So she decided to fix it.

A practicing relief veterinarian and former hospital owner, Dr. Soltis brings something rare to veterinary staffing: she has sat on every side of the table. She has been the owner desperately needing coverage, the doctor working the relief shift, and the practitioner navigating the fine print. Dr. Soltis leads CoverVet’s vision and its commitments to the veterinary community.

An attorney and entrepreneur, Justin has managed multiple startups and internet-based companies. At CoverVet, he leads operations, technology, and compliance — bringing the legal background and platform-building experience that make transparent, trustworthy staffing possible at scale.

The veterinary industry should have options. We’ve designed CoverVet to promote options and an increased availability of relief services. We welcome listing on multiple platforms. There is no risk of a hospital being “double charged” because it listed on CoverVet as there are no charges until a hospital approves a shift.
